An original vintage / near-antique mouth-blown taupe-coloured opaline glass shade with a classic art deco stepped ‘wedding cake’ design, capped with a period silver plate on brass gallery. It is most probably English in original, and dates to the 1930s.
The lamp is quite small, and would likely have been for hanging in a window, rather than illuminating a large room. It would be perfect as an accent lamp in a larger room, or hung as the main light in a smaller space, like a small hallway, WC or pantry. The colour and translucent nature of the opaline glass means it gives out a very warm, soft, even and diffused light.
The lamp has been brought up to modern safety standards with a brand new British-made earthed bulb-holder, and has been rewired with a generous length of premium 3-core double insulated cable with a period-style mottled grey linen braid.
