An exceptionally good, very large, and really rather rare - possibly unique - Arts & Crafts chandelier / pendant lamp, made in Germany c.1900-1910. It has been made by a blacksmith, by hand. Possibly it was produced by a lighting company, but its handmade nature, scale and weight make it more likely that it was commissioned for the hall of a large villa.
It features concentric rings of wrought iron with a hammered finish, the largest ring having decorative inset bronze panels around its circumference. From the largest ring hangs three hand-beaten shade galleries carrying white opal glass shades. The lamp is supported by very heavy chains, decoratively arranged, and its original hand-beaten ceiling rose.
The chandelier has been refitted with three new period-style brassed E27 Edison Screw lampholders. It has been rewired with premium vintage-style Italian-made cable with a subtle light grey cotton braid.
