A scarce, original, and very large French theatre poster for 'La Hussarde' ('The Hussar'), a 1925 operatta written by Henry de Gorsse, Victor Darlay and Georges Nanteuil, with music by Félix Fourdrain. The poster, with its striking graphic redolent of times gone by, was created by French painter and poster designer Louis Denis-Valvérane (1870-1943).
The poster features Denis-Valvérane's facsimile signature and monogrammatic 'LD' stamp for his studio at 10 Rue Léon Delhomme, Paris.
It is printed on thin newsprint paper, has never been folded, and seems to have survived against the odds because it's a proof copy bearing printer's registration marks for lining up colours, and so was never displayed.
1920s Antique Original 'La Hussarde' French Operetta Parisian Theatre Poster
Condition
Completely original and untouched. Some minor and fairly even yellowing to the paper, with slightly darker borders. Some slight raggedness and small crumpling to the edges. See images for details. But generally excellent, remarkable, considering its age.
