A large vintage reinforced plaster statue of a Chinese Terracotta Army general that doesn’t even remotely try to stay true to the famous Qin dynasty originals. It was probably commissioned in the UK for a Chinese restaurant in the 1980s.
At about half the height of the original, with cartoon-like hands, stubby little legs and an over-sized head with oddly Western features transposed to this half-pint General, it’s certainly full of character. It’s also wonderfully hand-painted with variegated colour and a little rough stone-like texture that does seek to capture the appearance of an ancient statue, then wax-polished to a high shine.
